Anna M. O’Brien

BA [Hons] Design for Stage + Screen Character MakeUp Design

My name is Anna O'Brien and I am 22. I am Creative and Passionate and hope to pursue a career in Visual Art. I have earned my degree in Design for Stage & Screen, specialising in Character Makeup Design. I was inspired to pursue this career as I have always adored film & theatre and was inspired particularly by the Classic Horror Films and Creatures, wanting to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Rick Baker. I am skilled in the Design and Making of prosthetics and throughout college I also discovered a passion and skill for more abstract, theatrical makeup styles such as Portrait Recreation or Body Paint.

The Picture of Dorian Grey

My interpretation of the text focused on Hedonism. Dorian Grey follows hedonism and gives freedom to all his desires, seeking any kind of pleasure he can find. Sex, Drugs and Alcohol are among the vices Dorian explores while out on the streets of London with Lord Henry. I decided to find links between Wilde's Vivid, Seedy London and the Vibrant, Debauchery filled world of 1890's Paris, using the La Belle Époque Posters as my initial inspiration. I was inspired by the exaggerated, caricature style of the characters and the depravity explored in that world.
