Hi! I'm a 22 year old music producer, songwriter and musician. I have a passion for all aspects of the music creation process, from initial idea to final master. Over the course of my time at IADT, I've developed skills in creativity, teamwork, project management and research. I'm also planning on starting an audio production business later this year with some fellow students. We plan to cater to the musicians that make up Dublin's iconic music scene. I'm also involved in my own creative pursuits, which include my solo venture, Human Virtues, and the band Peer Pleasure.
This project delves into the area of Spotify editorial playlists. These playlists are a great way for smaller artists to get their music noticed on Spotify, but the tricky part is getting your music featured on a playlist. This project is about using research and analysis to better understand and replicate the music that is curated on these playlists.
The aim of the project was to choose a playlist to aim to achieve placement on, then analyse the songs on that playlist in a number of different aspects. Guidelines would then be created using this analysis that, if followed, would hypothetically make a song more likely to be selected for the playlist by Spotify. A song would then be written and produced using these guidelines, then published to Spotify to see if it would be chosen for the targeted playlist.
The song was written and produced using the guidelines made from analysis. The song was then uploaded to Spotify. Unfortunately, the song was not chosen for placement on the targeted playlist. This outcome suggests that the key to achieving an placement on this playlists does not lie in the writing and production of a song. More research into this area is needed for further understanding of this.
