BA [Hons] Character MakeUp Design

I am Grace McClair, a Character Design student for Stage and Screen in IADT. I have gained alot of experience working on a range of short films produced by the NFS at IADT. I also use my skills working as a makeup artist for Charlotte Tilbury. I hope to gain more experience working in the makeup industry, especially in film and photoshoots. I am interested in the arts as well as makeup and have a passion for painting.

Project Description

The Picture of Dorian Gray follows a young man who sells his soul for a portrait of himself to bear the marks of his life rather than him. Two friends influence Dorian's behavior, Lord Henry who proves to be a bad moral influence and Basil, who wants Dorian to do better. As his life becomes tainted with sin and the portrait festers and rots, he remains untouched, until the sight of his portrait becomes too much. I wanted to create the three main characters close to the time period and close to the script. With the portrait I designed around the concept of rotting and mould in particular and how it would have transformed over time.

The Visual Aesthetic and Commodification of Grunge into the Fashion and Cosmetics Industry from 1992 to 1997.

Grunge was a short lived music genre and subculture that emerged in the 1990s. A certain style became synonymous with the genre as it grew, created by musicians and fans. As the subculture became more visible major industries aligned themselves with grunge which offered a new trend to create products and an opportunity to create profit. My thesis investigates when and how grunge's image became used for profit by larger industries, namely the fashion and cosmetics industries and analyzing the style associated with grunge over its short life span.
