Insecticon’ is a character I designed, I was particularly influenced by plants and flowers I was also interested in insects and how they evolve. Like many insects, Insecticon goes through a state of metamorphosis, during this first stage of its life it is very primitive and still developing. It develops in an embryonic sack that hangs like a cocoon. I recreated this stage of its though a silicone model. I built this model so that it can move, breath and even light up in the dark.
Eventually, when Insecticon develops fully it emerges from the the cocoon to its mature state. I recreated this stage of its life as a Digital character, this character is painted and rigged so it can be used in film. Insecticon is a creature that lives deep in the forest. Its design is heavily influenced by nature and the plants around him. On its back, the creature disguises itself like a leaf so it can quickly camouflage and hide from predators. But, from the front, it mimics beautiful flowers that attract prey close enough so they can be pounced on and devoured.I wanted this character to be both creepy and beautiful at the same time.
