Language of Realism: Classical realism to social realism

This project takes an in depth look into The Commitments (dir Alan Parker, 1991), The Snapper (dir Stephen Frears 1993) and The Van (dir Stephen Frears (1996). Adapted from Roddy Doyles novels, Northside Dublin was being represented, despite what the eye sees as the same community, these films are quite different from one another.

Using the frameworks of classical and social realism as a lens, my project explores the differing directorial approaches of Alan Parker and Stephen Frears through a critical essay and a video essay.

BA (Hons) New Media Studies

Hello I'm Emma, I have just completed my Bachelors degree of New Media Studies here at IADT. Over the past four years, Irish Cinema and culture has been a consistent thread that ran through my work. Without fullying intending to I kept returning to these themes, this page is a collection of that work.

Having a strong passion for documentary filmmaking, it led me toward an interest in editing- a practice I am eager to develop further as I move onto the next stage of my career.
