Hello! I am a multidisciplinary designer from Dublin. I enjoy design research, strategy, copywriting, image making, print and photography. I thrive in purpose driven work and am excited to explore different areas like service, systems and speculative design. During my time at IADT I have been lucky enough to do a semester of Erasmus exchange to La Cambre in Brussels, win a 24-hour design challenge with a food waste solution, and complete a summer internship at Language Studio in Dublin.
Dam The Data is a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of Data Centres and pressure the government to prioritize citizens' energy interests. It is a collaborative effort between a number of activist groups and provides resources that can be shared to increase visibility and reach. As well as an online and out of home campaign, Dam The Data published a free newspaper in the hope of empowering citizens with the knowledge needed to advocate for themselves in the face of the deluge of data centres in Ireland.
My thesis was on the topic of subvertising, the practice of creating fake advertisements by hijacking the visual language of advertising, brand identities and physical advertising spaces. Subverts (subverted advertisements) usually critique corporations or government and are increasing in popularity as a tool of environmental and social justice activists. It reclaims spaces that encourages rampant consumerism with the voice and creative expression of caring citizens. My thesis also explored how subvertising might work online, in the age of influencers to provoke critical engagement with what we see and believe online. Subvertising sparks curiosity for what is and what could be possible in a world facing the need for systemic change on climate and challenges pertaining to trust, fake news and AI.
