Hi, I’m Maeve, and I’m passionate about creating expressive and functional design identities across print and screen media, with a special focus on copywriting, typography and editorial design. My design is driven by play, experimentation, and a love for creative story-telling. My projects tend to explore meaningful topics in an expressive manner. I have a deep-rooted passion for art and poetry, and I often allow this to shine through in my work.
Thrive is a free experience gifting service initiated by the collaboration of the Dublin county councils. The service curates an itinerary of free activities, such as cliff walks, live music sessions, and food markets. The key values of this service are sustainability and personal connection, specifically among young adults. Gifting experiences is not only more sustainable than gifting products, but also a meaningful way of spending quality time with your loved ones. Thrive gives young people the opportunity to spend time with their friends and family on celebrated occasions, away from technology.
My thesis analyses key moments of Irish drag culture, from its roots in British theatre culture to its contemporary American influences. The aesthetics and performance of modern Irish drag are a culmination of Britain’s female impersonators and the events following America’s Stonewall. It studies Ireland’s journey from a conservative Catholic nation to the progressive society it champions today. This thesis also examines drag’s capacity to destabilise societal, cultural and political standards and its historical use in political activism. Highlighting the work of Panti Bliss, it traces Ireland’s queer cultural revolution that led to a nationwide acceptance and love of drag.
