Fractured Flight

For my final project, I explored fantasy and creature design by creating a silicone baby dragon puppet inspired by my horse. Studying her movements and anatomy helped me build something that felt alive. I was fascinated by how real anatomy could be adapted for fantasy. The dragon is designed as a film prop for a medieval market scene, where it sits in a cage—wounded, mistreated, but still fighting. I wanted it to feel magical yet grounded, something that could draw empathy. I focused on texture, subtle movement, and expression to make the dragon feel like it had life behind its eyes. This project challenged me to combine technical skills with storytelling to create a creature that feels like it could exist in a world just beyond ours.

BA (Hons) Design for Film

I’m Jess a model making student and emerging artist who has been studying design for film over the past few years. My creative journey began with a childhood love of art and building, which developed into a passion for model making during my time at IADT.
I have worked across a variety of scales and materials — from large set pieces to intricate props — with a special interest in creature creation and sculpture. Drawing from both the natural world and imagined realms, I love using storytelling and craftsmanship to bring unique characters and places to life.
I am very excited to keep exploring the world of model making and developing my skills across Film, Television and Visual Art.
