My name is Holly O'Sullivan. As of 2023, I have completed my degree in New Media Studies, and I am a full-time creative operations assistant for Gladcloud a Collaborative Social Media Marketing Platform (B2B2C), for Local Activation of National campaigns at scale. I recently completed a research project on Ireland's Vanishing Triangle and its impact on Irish media over three decades, which I presented in the form of an essay and accompanying video essay. I showcased the socio-historical context of Ireland's Vanishing Triangle as a media phenomenon. I produced a documentary that shows the personal journey of my close friend Killian who is a professional drag performer.
Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle has been a topic circulating in Irish Media for decades, and the emergence of a renewed interest in the cases of the six missing women from across the east coast of Ireland has occurred despite the disappearances taking place in the early to late 1990s. When looking at the cases today as of 2023, there has been a growing trend of independent researchers on social media platforms such as Tiktok and Youtube conducting their own research and analysis of the cases.
The research conducted for this essay displays a media analysis of Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle and the impact it has had on Irish Media over the course of three decades. Archival footage and newspaper archives will be analysed to showcase an academic display of the socio-historical context of Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle as a media phenomenon.
As part of my journalism module, I wrote an article on the impact of COVID-19 on remote workers. The pandemic has brought about a significant shift in how people work globally, and Ireland is no exception. In the early days of the pandemic, social distancing requirements necessitated a move towards remote working for many companies to maintain business continuity. As the country continued to combat the COVID-19 virus, the future of office jobs and remote work has been significantly influenced.
This essay will explore the positive and negative effects of COVID-19 on office jobs and remote work in Ireland. I have conducted interviews with two IT Help Desk Administrators from JCDecaux and gathered quotes from other anonymous sources who hold similar positions. I will examine the challenges and benefits of remote work and how it has affected both employees and companies.
Overall, my aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on remote work in Ireland. While the pandemic has presented many difficulties, it has also created new opportunities for remote work.
