Microplastics; Make The Invisible, Visible

This project explores how microplastics are present yet invisible parts of everyday life and how it affects us negatively. Through an awareness campaign made up of a poster and social media reels/tiktoks that lead to an informative, storytelling and interactive website, the project aims to communicate a serious topic in a way that feels engaging, relatable, and easy to digest rather than fear-driven or overwhelming. Through the website, people can learn about microplastics, their impact, and ways to reduce exposure, ending with a quiz to reflect on their own habits. This project spreads awareness around a topic that often goes unnoticed despite affecting everyone.

How Can We Make The Invisible More Visible?

The objective of this project is to raise awareness of how microplastics have become part of everyday life and the human body through an interactive and visually engaging campaign experience. Through posters, social media, and a website, the project aims to make a complex and often overlooked issue feel more personal, accessible, and easier to connect with. Rather than being fear-mongering, the project encourages curiosity, reflection, and conversation by focusing on everyday habits, health, and consumer choices. By using interactive elements, visuals, and a somewhat humorous but serious tone, the project aims to educate audiences without overwhelming them. This project focuses more on health than the environment because environmental issues can feel too overwhelming and easy to disconnect from. By focusing on the body and personal health, the issue feels more relatable. The interactive quiz makes it more personal too, getting people to reflect on their own habits and making the information more engaging and memorable.

Is Your Lifestyle More Plastic Than You Think?

The outcomes of this project will be an awareness campaign made up of a poster, short social media content, and an interactive website that can be accessed on the phone too. The poster will act as a way to introduce the idea of microplastics in everyday life and direct audiences towards the website (phone or laptop) through the QR code using a relatable yet somewhat shocking visuals and typography that will spike curiosity. Similarly, for the doomscrollers (like me) who sometimes might miss their surroundings, the social media content (reels/TikToks) will break down key information into short, engaging videos designed to get people curious and has the perks of reaching wider audiences globally also as having it spread more easily.

The main outcome is the interactive website, which will explain what microplastics are, how they affect the human body and the environment, how people are exposed to them in daily life and present alternatives/solutions to reduce this issue. It will present information in a clear, visual, fun and engaging way, making a complex topic easier to digest. There will also be a quiz that allows users to reflect on their own habits and to know their exposure to microplastics at the very end.

Overall, the project outcomes aim to raise awareness of microplastics in a way that feels engaging, accessible, and relevant to everyday life, focusing on personal health to make the issue feel more urgent and relatable.
