The project “TOO CLOSE” looks to create a greater empathy and awareness of the space we take up. Highlighting the negative experiences with strangers who choose to invade personal space in public spaces when it's unnecessary. The main goal of this project is to give a better insight into why it's important to respect people's personal boundaries in public when we can. Bringing awareness and empathy to the harmful effects of being in people's personal space. Encouraging people to step back and look at how we can be more considerate of other's personal space.

By using experience design I recreated the stimuli and increasing overwhelm one might experience when their personal space is invaded. Looking at key places that one might experience this and increasing the level of intensity in the video with every new more overwhelming space. Taking statistics from my primary conducted surveys and collected experiences. My secondary research came from numerous academic journals and news articles many of them being as recent as a few months old. From my research unfortunately I found a lot of people had experienced negative experiences with strangers being too close but this only made it more important to me to continue with this project so I could build an awareness about this topic.
In the experience itself I aimed to make people physically experience being too close as well as giving visualisation and audible stimuli to these experiences so we might be able to bring more awareness. The audience step into taped box on the floor of the experience space. Being close to people they might not know stimulates the invasion one might experience in public space. Using headphones they watch the uncomfortable video experience together. The video consists of audio and visual representations of the feeling of personal space invasion.
This dissertation will examine the topic of brand identity by using examples of how Formula 1 and the Car brands that race in the championship use brand image to differ their identities. I examined the theories behind strong brand image and the personalities a brand can express and analysed brand ethos and the importance to audience to stick to brand values. I explored how sports' influence on culture has importance thus discussing why sports teams and individuals need designers. I analysed the use of marketing in Formula 1, the effects of marketing on a brand's image especially when looking at branding manufacturing verses branding a company. I researched teams such as Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz who market as motorsport companies focused in presenting their cars as the main expression of their brand. To compare I then analysed Red Bull and Aston Martin as examples of teams who promote the lifestyle they create surrounding their cars.

Hiya I'm Ciara! I am a multidisciplinary graphic designer from Co. Wicklow. My design strengths are in Motion Design, Illustration, Branding and General design for screen. I am always challenging myself working hard to continually develop current and new skills. I enjoy thoroughly researching topics for all my projects as well as looking into more abstract areas and fields for inspiration. My projects often convey a narrative and build a story with much of my work focusing on equality, identity, and feminism.
