People want connection, collaboration, and communication.

- The Subversion fosters connection by bringing people together in organic and inorganic ways, at the launch gig and other future promoted events.

- It promotes collaboration and the DIY ethic through collective effort in creating the zine and organising events.

- Through communication, it connects people, sparks conversations between unlikely individuals, and breaks down outdated views of other subcultures and communities.

By producing my solutions, I’m conducting field research and:
• Studying people’s engagement and response to the zine, launch gig, microsite, and social media presence
• Exploring how DIY can impact people/how it can bring people together
• Investigating whether having a brand makes you more credible within a music scene
• Studying the IKEA effect and seeing if community engagement makes you feel more connected to your people?

Len Thompson
BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Heya! I’m Len, a graphic designer and multimedia artist who loves all things physical, personal, and energetic. I especially enjoy print mediums like books, magazines, and posters, where the craft of making something tactile and memorable is always front and centre. I also have a strong interest in photography and scanography, which often feed into my design process and image-making. I’m passionate about creating meaningful, expressive work that’s both seen and felt.

My work is driven by emotion, storytelling, and strong visual energy. I aim to create designs that people want to keep, share, and feel connected to. I’m also exploring motion and interactive design, always looking to push my skills and try new things.
