For this project I learned how to rig in the 3D animation programme, Blender. Using that knowledge, I created the very rig used to animate the wolf for Lili Dora's film "The Edge of Silence."

It didn't just end at making the rig I had to also make sure it worked with whatever the current version of the wolf mesh was in use and test how well the rig could be used for animating. I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far without the many feedback sessions and guidance from one of our lecturers, Ross Ryder. Thanks to him I was able to prioritize the main issues/aspects of the rig to adapt along with having a clear plan to progress in making the best rig possible for the film.
Over the full year I got to create a fully functional rig and learn many things about the practice of 3D rigging that I wouldn't learn without the physicality of needing it for the film. In the end, I got to animate using my creation and see the fruits of my labour.
In fact, I took all I learned this year and applied it to make an original character in 3D and fully rig it. This is something that simply wouldn't be able to be done as easily before.
Something I'm always going to be grateful for is Lili asking me to help her make this 3D film for the year. Thank you so much Lili!

I am a 2D/3D character animator and 3D rigging artist. This year while specializing, I learned the skill of 3D rigging while working on the student film, The Edge of Silence. I was able to use my background in character animation to inform the rig in terms of the best way to construct the rig for animation.
