Mali Filozof - Little Philosopher

Mali Filozof is an expansion of a silly personal childhood anecdote, voiced entirely in my mother tongue. I hope this silly creation sparks smiles and a sense of nostalgia, inviting you to recall times of simpler conundrums.

Backgrounds for Mali Filozof/Little Philosopher - working on my film opened a whole new area of interest in background art. The charming and calming process of creating the world within which life comes to be truly enhances the medium.

Goals

I sought out to create something simple and endearing, while giving a nudge of gratitude to my family who has supported me on this journey. The title "Little Philosopher" highlights the overthinking nature of the main character's personality, whilst simultaneously serving to mislead the audience into believing the conundrum leans toward a question such as "What comes first, chicken or the egg?" while the resolution reveals something much more goofy and out of pocket. It's a story that would often come up as a chuckle worthy blast from the past, and a heartwarming reminder of children's silly nature. I felt passionate about producing it in my native language, and involving majority of people's authentic voices though the help of my family members.

Outcomes

Through numerous hurdles and learning curves to overcome, I've learnt a lot. About persistence, patience, and the creative process of managing and creating a film. I've accepted the need to adapt through sacrifice, whether it be by adjusting film's visuals for a more manageable workload, or cutting unessential scenes entirely. I've expanded my skills by immersing myself in the fields I rarely engage with, such as backgrounds, and I've done more animating than ever before. The outcome may be imperfect, but its something I am proud of. I'm endlessly grateful for the opportunity to create this!

BA (Hons) Animation

Hello! I am a Croatian illustrator and animator who's endlessly passionate about self expression and storytelling though art. I hope to explore the vast potential of different mediums, and take great joy dabbling in different fields of the creative process. My favorite aspect of art are its endless possibilities and the euphoria of growth and accomplishment. In my final year I've decided to embark on an adventure of creating my own short film, Mali Filozof/Little Philosopher.
