Doonaree

This project takes inspiration from Japanese philosophies and mindful practices such as Shinrin-yoku (Forest Bathing), Komorebi. Wabi-Sabi and Yūgen, dealing with impermanence and finding the beauty in imperfections. Returning to Dún A Rí forest park (spelt Doonaree colloquially) in her hometown of Kingscourt, the artist draws on these concepts to reflect her experience of being in this space. Seeking both the physical and mental healing properties that the forest provides, the artist deals with the complexity of moving through a landscape damaged by Storm Éowyn. By focusing on the smaller, more ambiguous parts of the landscape, it allows for a quiet, self-reflective collection of images that immerse us in the landscape.
