Imposition

In establishing your identity, you are in the process of forming your understanding of your existence and place in the world around you. 'Imposition' uses digitally deconstructed images of religious and spiritual symbols as a method for investigating the tension experienced in this search for identity.

Considering aspects of spirituality, authenticity, and our relationship to the supposed truth of the photographic image, this series remodels archetypal symbols with fragmentary patterns. Referencing trance states from sources like indigenous art and rave culture, it is a physical manifestation for unseen truths as Talmontas seeks to consider the establishment and development of his religious identity or lack thereof.

Sarunas Talmontas is a Visual Artist who was born in Lithuania and raised in Ireland. His work is an investigation of what the specific nature or characteristics that define a thing or being’s existence actually are. Showing the unique relationship these things have, and what it is that creates their particular “Identity of Existence” are the underpinnings of his practise. Combing this with a reconsideration of the religious practices and environment of both his Lithuanian background and his Irish upbringing has resulted in a deep reconsideration of spirituality and identity, and it is this that he explores with his photographic and digital art works.
