Emma Byrne
Delicate Force considers women in sport through a combination of portraiture and documentary photography. Rather than concentrating solely on competition, the images aim to capture the discipline, control and quiet endurance that exist behind the performance.The project considers ideas of strength, femininity and physical dedication without relying on familiar or traditional representations of female athletes. Instead, the photographs take a more intimate and observational approach, allowing the reflective realities of the young women who collaborated with Byrne to come to be witnessed away from the predetermined ideas of what they should or could be.
Emma Byrne is a Dublin based photographer working with digital photography. With a strong passion for sport, her work centers around sports photography and portraiture, capturing the energy, dedication, and personality that exist within athletic performance. She is particularly interested in documenting the human side of sport, focusing not only on the competition itself but also on the individuals behind it. Inspired by the culture and emotion surrounding sport she is developing her practice further, focusing on photographing athletes and sporting events while continuing to refine her creative voice.
