Jamesena Murphy Boylan
These lumen prints were created in Rossmore Forest Park in County Monaghan using only materials gathered from the surroundings before being placed directly onto photosensitive paper. By allowing each image to develop through an uncontrolled, time-based process, they show the interaction between light, weather and paper. Uncertainty is embraced as a central theme, documenting the traces of time and transformation on the paper under changing environmental conditions.
The photographs engage with the Victorian language of flowers, known as Floriography, in which plants convey hidden meanings and emotions. Combining this historical reference with an experimental process, the prints connect nature, symbolism and visual communication.
