In The Bag

In The Bag is a photographic typology documenting the contents of various individual’s bags. It
shows what items different people need to carry with them depending on their job or lifestyle. The contents of the bags were photographed just as they were, the items have not been selected or filtered before their documentation ensuring that the collections you see are honest representations of each person's bag, displaying what they chose to take with them that day when leaving their home.
Information can be gleaned about a person from the contents of their bag. This may be their age, profession or interests. It is normally hidden from view, here it is exposed.
What do you think your bag says about you?

Hana Qureshi is a visual artist based in Co. Wicklow. With an interest in human behaviour, she uses typologies to reveal and compare the differences and uniqueness of people’s lives and selves. Through photography, her work examines the relationship between personal identity and the objects, routines, and systems that shape everyday life. Influenced by both documentary and conceptual photographic practices, she is particularly interested in observation and repetition. Her work often focuses on ordinary subjects presented in systematic ways, encouraging viewers to examine subtle distinctions between individuals and to consider how personality, occupation, habits, and social roles can be reflected through material belongings and our beings.
