Laura Mannion
My work is driven by a strong desire to help bring people together and tell their stories. My most recent project is a personal documentary about my grandfather, narrated by my father.
My thesis explores how the Irish language has been politicised in film. It traces the history of the Irish language in cinema and includes a textual analysis of the 2024 biopic Kneecap, examining how the film politicises the language.

Laura, originally from Galway, is a multidisciplinary creator with a focus on journalism. Throughout her four years, she has created a range of projects: a podcast with local drag queens, the aiding, organisation, and styling of a charity fashion show for the Irish Cancer Society, a documentary on sex work, and a journalism piece exploring Ireland’s spiking laws.
