This project explores how Ryan Murphy’s Monster series blurs the boundary between empathy and exploitation in its portrayal of real-life criminals and victims, and if empathy can really exist without exploitation in the media landscape.

Siomha Whelan has recently completed her BA in New Media Studies at IADT. She has a keen interest in critically analysing media, graphic design, and journalistic writing. She is drawn to the raw and unfiltered which is conveyed through her writing. In her 3rd Year at IADT, she went on Erasmus to Tallinn University, Estonia. This experience enhanced her collaborative skills and increased her skills in marketing and public relations. In the future, Siomha hopes to work in a writing capacity that connects her with a diverse range of people within the industry.
