Éadaoin O'Shea Costley
An eclectic group of individuals choose to live off-grid in the 1980s, each settling in County Cork. This short documentary explores what drew them to this life and how they navigate growing older in a rural setting. The film is about solitude, community, and the search for meaning beyond the mainstream.
Role on Production: Director / Producer

My goal for this project was to document the lives of people who have chosen to live off-grid in the same rural area, exploring their motivations, difficulties and what they love most about their adopted homes. I wanted to investigate themes of ageing, solitude, and self-reliance to create an intimate, observational documentary that captures the emotional truth of their stories.
The short documentary captures the lives of people living off-grid in a shared rural landscape in Ireland. It explores themes of isolation, freedom, and community. During the course of development and production, I wanted to understand documentary techniques that would enhance the beauty of the natural settings, and then use that footage to create a documentary narrative that reflected a real and tangible sense of place.
