Jason is a documentary film I edited, which told a deeply personal story about overcoming trauma and forgiving the past. It follows the story of its eponymous lead and his struggles with drug addiction and a difficult upbringing.
With this film, I was determined to take what was a very heavy story to a place of humanity. Jason's story was incredibly heavy and I was adamant to make a film that did not exploit him or his story but rather humanise him and help audiences relate to him.
In editing Jason, I achieved myself and the director's goal of crafting a film that explored the life of a person who had made mistakes, but was trying to turn his life around. Telling this story was a challenge, given his history and the trauma he experienced. Editing such a film took a a great toll but it also taught me a lot about the process, and how to be sensitive with the material, something that ultimately worked out positively.
