The thesis focuses on the extent to which editing is able to alter the objectivity of documentaries and its audience perception of truth through exploring and comparing editing approaches in documentary series produced for broadcast and on-demand video services. The examination of editing methods is based on textual analysis and manual data collection (including, e.g. shot length, audio cut length, cut types, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds), cognitive psychological studies (the need for cognitive closure, cognitive bias, and predictive coding), semiotics, and genre studies.
I'm Lilla, a Hungarian filmmaker who found her passion for editing documentaries at IADT. For me, editing documentaries is all about shaping real stories in a compelling and creative way without compromising authenticity. I approach editing with strong attention to detail and an organised workflow across both DaVinci Resolve and Avid Media Composer.
