As a specialist, I spent my time collaborating on different film projects and honing my skills to deliver work that was of a high standard. My work below showcases the many films I had the opportunity to contribute on these last few years as I grew and developed my interest in background painting and layout drawing. I aspire to continue exploring and experimenting with different techniques to develop my skills even further as a background artist.
This thesis explores the relationship between character merchandising and franchising and its reliance on its accompanying media. Furthermore, it will specifically dive into the marketing of toys through the lens of the Hasbro Company and one of its largest brands, The Transformers, following the past few decades. The goal of this thesis was to show that film and television entertainment, as part of the process to promote toys can transcend from its intended purpose and through consumer interest help keep a company alive. This thesis explores a select history of toys, progressing to an exploration of character merchandising and the history of Hasbro. From there, it focuses on showing the development of merchandising into franchising and expanding on the industry of toys. Concluding the thesis, it demonstrates the importance of the consumer connection and the growth of a merchandise's fanbase. Additionally, it explores the link and cycle of toy merchandising and cinema and how they feed off each-other to remain relevant to consumers.
