Busking Goblin

The 'Busking Goblin' was my first dive in silicone casting on a large scale, which was a method that I had always been interested in trying for myself.
I was inspired by various puppet-centric films, such as 'Labyrinth' (1986); however I wanted to take a different direction from the 'fantasy' aesthetic. The character plays the role of a 'street busker' in a destitute world or planet; for the characters instrument, I took inspiration from Laotian bomb art, the art of reusing unused war material to create furniture or sculptures; basing the instrument off of rusted landmines, giving the impression the creature lives in a war torn area.

Silicone Puppetry

The main aim of this project was to create a creature, using two part fiberglass moulds for the arms, feet and head, which were cast in liquid silicone; which was a material that I always wanted to explore and try for myself.
Another aspect I wanted to explore was basic puppetry, I researched into and designed a ball and socket joint that was 3D printed; which was placed in the shoulder and attached to the arms.
