Elemental Prostheses

This project involves the design, modelling and texturing of several limbs, each themed after one of the four elements, fire, water, earth and air. These pieces are intended to be used in motion capture in a film production.

What I learned from this project

Working on these elemental prostheses has allowed me to refine many of my skills relating to 3D art. While working on this, I have improved my understanding of the software that I have used to create this project. Since I went through the pipeline of modelling to texturing to rendering four times in a short time period, I developed a workflow that I feel works for me for projects like these.
Working up the details on some of these limbs has given me an appreciation for the enjoyment that can be gained from detail oriented sculpting and texturing, and I feel that I have therefore gotten better at making my pieces look more complicated, and less plain.

BA (Hons) Design for Film

My name is Fergal McCullagh, and I am a digital 3D artist from Co. Dublin. I especially enjoy digitally sculpting unorthodox shapes and texturing them. The thing that I like most about digital 3D art is that I can imagine these shapes, and create them, even if they would not hold their shape in the real world. My time at IADT has also allowed me to develop a love for detail-oriented sculpting.
