Change: Demanding Timely ADHD Diagnosis

Change is a protest campaign with the aim being to reduce the wait time for ADHD diagnostic services for adults in Ireland. The wait time for an ADHD diagnosis in Ireland is 3-6 months and costs €1,500 - €2,000, if you have private healthcare. If you are on the public healthcare system it is a free service, however, the wait time is 2-4+ years on average. The list is also closed in many places across the country. The disability act states that all citizens in Ireland are entitled to diagnosis, however the list is closed in many parts of the country meaning people can't get a public diagnosis. This creates an unfair disadvantage for those who can't afford private diagnosis.

Project Objectives

The main goal of this project is to bring people together to push for shorter waiting times for adults in Ireland who are trying to get an ADHD diagnosis. If the project grows, I would like to work with ADHD Ireland on this campaign. Another important goal is to create a clear and easy-to-use list of support services for people with ADHD. Most websites that offer support for neurodivergent people are not designed in a way that suits how neurodiverse people think and process information. I wanted to make something simple and straightforward, so people with ADHD don’t have to search through lots of confusing information to find the help they need. I also want to raise awareness about how undiagnosed ADHD can affect adults, and to speak about the lack of support services available for them. Many people still don’t see ADHD as something that affects adults, and I want to highlight this issue.
Finally, I am encouraging people to visit the Change website and sign a petition. This petition calls for waiting times to be reduced within the next year, in line with the Disability Act.

Project Outcomes

The outcomes of Change were achieved through the creation of a protest campaign. This campaign included both digital and print media. The outcomes are presented through a clear, bright, minimalistic, and empowering visual identity that is adapted for people with ADHD. A full suite of outcomes was produced, including information posters, a website, a petition, a social media page, and promotional merchandise. The main outcome, and the central hub of this project, is the website. Its purpose is to provide an accessible online directory of support services, while also highlighting the seriousness and impact of undiagnosed ADHD in adults across Ireland.

Thesis: “Beer for girls” Women in Beer advertising in the US & Ireland from 1960-2026

My thesis explores the impact that societal expectations place on women and how this is perpetuated in alcohol advertising, specifically in beer advertising. My aim was to show that the beer industry has commodified women for profit and continues to do so under false themes of empowerment and support. These thematic trends capitalise on women’s buying power and are used as a way to address previously androcentric advertising by adapting it to today’s standards. My main goal throughout my thesis was to investigate how harmful this is to women’s progression in society. There is a need for genuine advocacy and support, rather than companies taking advantage of women’s empowerment. I supported my thesis by examining social media terminology, both current and past beer advertising in the US and Ireland, and the perspectives of feminist scholars on the representation of women in advertising.

Hi, I'm Lily! I'm a multi-disciplinary designer. I am passionate about all aspects of graphic design. I feel most drawn to illustration, brand identity, art direction, photography and type. I approach all of my projects with an open mind. Understanding people and what resonates with them is a key component of my design strategy. I enjoy broadening my skillset and I believe there is always more to learn! I went on Erasmus in La Cambre in Brussels, which gave me the opportunity and skills to be able to work on projects in both French and English. I look forward to putting all of the skills I have learnt, throughout my time in IADT and on Erasmus, into practice and to develop my skills further after graduation!
