Easy Route Ireland

My daily commute made for everyone.

Easy Route Ireland explores how real-time public transport information in Ireland can become more accessible at the point of waiting. It is designed to support disabled passengers, older adults, and daily commuters through physical and digital tools that improve how transport information is delivered across Ireland. It combines accessible touch panels, audio announcements, QR code interactions, and a mobile-friendly online platform to make journey updates clearer and easier to understand. The project aims to reduce uncertainty while travelling and create a more inclusive public transport experience for all users.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this project was to improve the accessibility and reliability of public transport stops across Ireland. Every design decision was made with the audience in mind, following a human-centred design approach. The system would also operate as a campaign in partnership with the National Transport Authority.

Project Outcomes

What if this system could be implemented across transport stops in Ireland, creating a more reliable and accessible journey for daily commuters?

The main outcome of this project is the installation of touch panels where possible, providing real-time transport updates alongside detailed accessibility information. This information could also be accessed by scanning a QR code sticker displayed at the point of waiting. The QR code would guide commuters to an online mobile version identical to the interface displayed on the touch panels, creating a consistent and familiar experience across both physical and digital touchpoints. In addition, a Braille guidance system would be installed where appropriate, helping visually impaired commuters navigate and access the audio assistance system independently.
