Ellen Carroll
My video works explore the relationship between the natural world and the human psyche, focusing particularly on the experience of seasonal depression. Despite access to extremely sophisticated technology, humans are still at the mercy of the elements. These elements include extreme weather, natural disasters and the unavoidable experience of seasonal change. **Shelter** documents solitary figure methodically creating a simple shelter before the sun sets. The earlier video work, **How to keep the darkness at bay: A Tutorial**, explores related themes, emphasising the instinctual need to create warmth, to ensure safety and refuge for both body and mind.
