Sarah Carroll
My project focuses on close observational detail as well as distant viewing, hence the largeness in scale of my final drawing, with the intention of capturing the emotional depth of the animal subject. The larger-than-life scale of the deer I have drawn depicts a stand in for human appearance, with the added details of fabric and colour that reflects my personality. By focusing on animals or woodland creatures that are considered ‘innocent’ in nature, I invite viewers to confront any overwhelming feelings of awe or empathy, while engaging questions of ‘why’ the animal has been represented in the way it has been.
