My project focuses on the human eye and takes inspiration from the form of the eye, in an abstract art style. The exploration and representation of the human eye has fascinated many artists, due to the eye’s complex shapes and varied forms. I am interested in all elements of the eye, such as the lines of the iris, the range of colours, shades and tones, and the red veins in the sclera. My work is primarily done in acrylic paint, and I use a hair dryer to move and split the paint all over the surface. The high gloss varnish used in my paintings is intended to resemble the shine of the eye. My approach to representing the features of the human eye is expressive rather than anatomically realistic.

Wafaa Mohamed is an Egyptian visual artist based in Wicklow, whose work consists of acrylic paintings and monochrome drawings. Her recent work is influenced by abstract art while also being inspired by the appearance of human eyes, such as the coloured lines and the shapes inside the iris and the red veins in the sclera and how these can be any shape and colour in all human eyes around the world. She participated in the IADT show **Mud Between the Toes** at Pallas Projects/Studios in 2025.
