James Grant Duggan 

Design for Stage + Screen

James is a Production Designer that studied at IADT. He has a great passion for the creative arts. Particularly in the realms of set design, theatre, film, photography and illustration. Collaborating on works in opera, theatre and film over his years in IADT.

Major and Minor Projects

The first projects culminate two separate opera design, scenic and construction work. The first being 'Cendrillon'/'Postcards From Morocco'(2024) and the second being 'The Sofa/Alcina'(2023)

The second project culminates design work from a filmic version of William Shakespeare's 'As You Like It', transforming the original setting to 16th century settler and native tribes in Nova Scotia. The Court represented by the settlers and the Forest by the native tribes.



Argento's 'Suspiria'(1977) A Compendium of Horror Filmmaking, Analysis Through Visual 'Mise-en-Scene" and Narrative Aspects

My thesis analyzed the film 'Suspiria'(1977) directed by Dario Argento. I delved into aspects of sets and spaces, colour design and the films genre, while sowing different theoretical thinking in how they create a cohesive and more interesting filmmaking.
