My name is Michael Brennan; I'm a 28-year-old music producer and hip-hop vocalist. Over the course of my time in IADT I learned many music production techniques and skills in the associated modules. I have a keen interest in the use of music in Film and TV, and my project and thesis display this further. I am a member of an Irish hip-hop group called LightNife and have written, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered much of the music released by LightNife. We have performed in venues such as The Mansion House, Bow Lane, The Sugar Club, and The Bernard Shaw.
My project involved creating music and a visual story, or short film, to discover the effectiveness of the music created for the piece in eliciting an emotional response in the viewer. The project involved elements of pre-production, production and post-production with regard to film and music creation, teaching me valuable lessons about the processes of both.
My thesis provided me with the research and background knowledge required for undertaking my project. I conducted research into aspects of cinematography, film editing techniques, and music for film. Following on from the research, I conducted a methodology which set out the sequence of events that would take place in order to complete the project.
