Michelle is a Dublin-based animator who appreciates all aspects of animation, particularly 2d animation, storyboarding, and composition. In her graduate film, she wanted to include a lot of expressive animation and shocking visuals. She loves to figure out how things can move in animation and how best the camera should be used to exhibit a character's emotions on screen. Michelle's thesis on the relationship between horror and comedy, says the similarity between these genres is the response they get from their audiences. In her film, Michelle uses the camera and animation to get the best emotional response from the audience.
A short film about a girl's makeup routine suffering from low self esteem and body dysmorphia. I was influenced by my own experience with the subject and the current trend of beauty influencers in online media. This film takes inspiration from unrealistic beauty standards and the rising popularity of beauty influencers on social media. The character in my film is struggling with her confidence when she compares herself to girls online.
Making this film allowed me to improve my skills as a director and animator. I can't wait for my next project.
This paper is about the relationship between horror and parody. This paper discusses the style of horror parodies. This paper gives the reader an introduction to the parody genre by analyzing three horror parodies in detail. Parody serves to reframe a target text or genre and reframes its source material to add comedy by mimicking it. However, parody can also serve as an educative piece of media. Exaggeration and inclusion of meta-humor can allow the filmmaker to comment on areas of their target text. Allowing audiences to have a wider discussion on the source material being parodied. For the most part, parody relies on its audience to have an active recognition of the source material while watching parody to understand what is taking place. So parody films employ recognizable iconography and mise-en-scene from their target texts.
