My Final Year Project looked at the social, historical, and political economy surrounding censorship and attitudes in the UK and Ireland, specifically in the 1980s. I conveyed this through the medium of video along with my written critical essay. This project examined the marketing strategy behind video nasties once they were released or unbanned, the legal framework put into place to ban these films in the first place, and how they pioneered the way products such as video games and horror films are promoted in the age of social media. This project asked various questions such as, why was there a crackdown on these films in the 80s, who oversaw the said crackdown, what triggered the moral panic, and what was the effects on the film industry and society.
