Hello, I'm Patrick! I'm a final-year Creative Computing student with an interest of programming. The time I spent at IADT has taught me various technologies and fields, and got to get hands-on experience with using various technologies. The technologies include front-end development, back-end development, game development, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. I aspire to further study in the area of computer vision and graphics, and develop personal projects to further my experience.
RecogFood is an application that utilizes a computer vision technology to detect and recognize certain food items. By having the user to use camera feature, it is capable of detecting the food items in real-time, which can detect a single quantity or multiple quantities on the image. The application then inputs the calorie count for each food item from the image that is selected by the user. It's intended to keep track of the calories eaten, setting a limit of the calories consumed, and getting the names of certain food items that might be unknown to the user regarding their language and vocabulary.
The thesis covers the research of image recognition and the technology behind it. Computer vision on object detection is researched along with different types object detection and recognition technologies. Convoluted Neural Networks (CNN) and Deep Learning technology is covered. Existing form of similar applications are researched and compared. The application is then built along the way.
