The BA (Hons) Art is an interdisciplinary programme that emphasises practical and critical exploration, with students choosing the media and techniques most appropriate to their concerns. Many of this year’s students have turned their attention to their immediate physical, natural and social environment, examining otherwise overlooked built structures, or closely observing the behaviours of humans and other animals. Many have found new ways to engage with pressing political issues, such as social inequality and climate change, or developed rich expressions of emotional states. Rising to the challenges presented by the past year, the class of 2022 have produced atmospheric audio-visual narratives, site-responsive drawings, still life paintings, playful animations, quasi-functional sculptures, performance pieces and much more.

Graduates of the BA (Hons) can choose to pursue professional pathways in the art industry, making and exhibiting art in commercial or publicly-funded contexts. They have also drawn on their practical and conceptual skills to establish practices in other areas, including creative writing and publishing, illustration, curating, event management, commissioning, media production, computer programming, arts education and teaching at all levels.
