My work is autobiographical and deeply personal, with the subjects being found unconsciously rather than by being recalled from my memory. I begin by allowing an image to form naturally in my mind whilst looking at my page, or canvas, which I prime with black gesso to allow the images to emerge more easily. The process then becomes reactive. The most common recurring themes over the last year or so have been of family dynamics and relationships, usually with reminders of past events and places coming through, and most recently I have been developing characters with backstories and a world of their own.
