Hi! My name is Abbie Rea, I'm 23 years old and I have just finished my 4th and final year of Creative Music Production here at IADT. I am originally from Cavan, but have been living in Dublin for the past 4 years. Studying my passion has been so beneficial, and offered valuable skills that has allowed me to branch into areas I had not even known about. Through my course, I have been given the opportunity to work at a recording studio, along with festivals across the summer. I plan on pursuing my carreer in sound engineering and building my portfolio further in this field.
The aim of this study was to research the effects of music therapy to encourage positive mental health and resolve social issues experienced by adolescents. This study observed both primary and secondary information to demonstrate that music therapy has positive effects on ones’ mental health. Interviews and surveys provided relative information that offer personal experiences and approaches to music therapy. The secondary information gathered, is reinforced by the primary data found, proving that music can be used to encourage positive mental health and resolve social issues. The use of multiple resources and skills helped to accomplish the objectives of this current study and a conclusion was then drawn from the material collected. The interviews are presented in a series of podcasts which offer the listener first-hand information and an insight into the workings of a music therapist along with a past patient's experience. This concluded to be the best approach for breaking down the barrier from the unknown realm of music therapy and allowing society to learn about its benefits.
