These photographs were taken in Estonia between the night of the full moon on 18 March and the Spring Equinox which occurred on 20 March 2022. The latter date marks the astronomical start to Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
At 18:30 beside Jägala Waterfall, 30km east of Tallinn, a group of people gathered to welcome this last full moon of winter and the forthcoming spring.
'Ceremony' is a documentation of a chance encounter with the unexpected, a glimpse of being within reach of a phenomenon or ritual, yet only observing it as an outsider.
Returning the next day I found traces of what I had witnessed. Although the moment had passed, the bonfire continued to burn, indicating something else could be within reach.
