Joe Mc Quillan is a visual artist and photographer based in bray Co Wicklow. His work focuses on the documentary and social themes within his community often finding himself drawn to the collaboration between place and people and through a personal exploration of the locality using the medium of digital format photography.
Closing time focuses on the once iconic and imposing architectural presence of the Bray Head hotel that stood proud on the promenade in Bray.
Built in the mid 1800's to capture the booming Tourism of Bray's Victorian seafront, it's current condition is one of dereliction and abandonment since it's closure in more recent years. Through the medium of Photography, I have created a visual narrative of the once bustling and busy hotel, from objects and symbols, I encountered on an exploration of the vacant site. This reminds us of the passage of time from its glory days that also boasted a history of renowned film from Irish and international cinema to its current state of dereliction.
