Lauren Kierans is a Wicklow based artist who works in print and drawing and over the last couple of months has begun painting with inks on Fabriano Paper. Her work is strongly focused on animals, and she has two dogs of her own. She has studied many different animals, such as farm animals including donkeys, sea creatures such as octopi and fish, and most recently, greyhounds. She has participated in group shows such as the end of year exhibition in Bray Institute of Further Education (2018), New Translations (IADT student exhibition at IMMA, 2019) and Propositions (IADT campus, 2022).
Greyhounds, 2022, is a series of paintings on Fabiano paper, in burnt umber, silver and mixing grey ink.
The project in which the work was created, was based on the Greyhound Racing Industry, which is a popular but controversial sport in Ireland.
I wanted the paintings to focus on the Greyhound as an animal, considering the dogs personality and character .
