Hey, I’m Ruairi. I love to create visual identity systems and bring identities and concepts to life through motion. By bridging these two design disciplines, I hope to create a strong sense of identity, personality and storytelling in every project I work on. I take a considered view of the challenges and opportunities of every brief, and pride myself in creating unique, engaging and surprising design solutions. Other than working on design and motion, I have a keen interest in illustration and like to make my own comics in my spare time.
gloom is a weather forecast from the future, showing what our future forecast will look like if we continue to muddle through life, ignoring the climate crisis.
The gloom campaign spans environmental, packaging and digital outputs. The campaign aims to provoke thought, amuse, and possibly annoy people with the hope of making them re-consider their passivity in the face of the ongoing climate change crisis, and become actively engaged with the many ways they can help at a larger scale.
The aim of my thesis is to explore how contemporary horror comics can serve as a unique and effective medium in which to explore and bear witness to trauma; personal, historical, and systemic. My thesis analyses Charles Burns' "Black Hole" and Emil Ferris' "My Favorite Thing is Monsters" as exemplars of contemporary horror comics exploration of such traumas. The theoretical underpinning of my thesis spans the fields of trauma studies, horror and comics studies.
