My name is Matthew Hally and I am an animator and filmmaker. I have interests in a wide range of areas within filmmaking and animation from stop-motion, classic 2D animation, set and prop design, storyboarding and sound production. My graduate film is a combination of all of these areas, focusing on experimenting in areas of animation I hadn’t before had the opportunity to try. I love to learn new ways to experiment within creation and expand my creative abilities.
I aimed to explore new areas of film making with this project, from building and animating in Blender, a 3D software, Stop-motion shooting in dragon frame, prop and set building as well as classic 2D animation. The film explores the idea of the desolation of one’s everyday life and the connection of that to our dreams. The theme of dreams was chosen to allow me to experiment more with different animating styles as our dreams are often experienced as a mix-match of scenes, experiences and ideas. Our dreams are uninhabited and empty, truly desolate, only given life through our own perception.
