Dean Walsh

BA [Hons] Art

Dean Walsh is an Irish artist based in Dublin. He works with film and video and is especially interested in cinematic modes of presentation. Cinematography, sound design and editing are all central to his practice. He is interested in exploring narrative and metaphor, as well as aspects of his own subjective experience. His work is influenced by his research into medieval art, the psychology of archetypes, and philosophies of art and existence. He has taken part in IADT group shows such as Propositions (IADT Campus, 2022).

My work centres around my own personal experience, studying environments and points of interest. A work evolves out of short video clips, sound design and photography to create atmospheric portraits of places and emotions. I use video and sound design to guide audiences on a transcendental experience through the abstract narratives of my videos. An area of my focus is on the play of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds within the video pieces, which are not only used to enhance the surreal aspects but also the realism of the scenes at points.
