I am a hard-working and motivated individual interested in UX/UI design and research. I have experience in various coding languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, Python, JavaScript, React JS and Vue JS. This year I had the oppurtunity to focus my research project on assistive technology and inclusive design. I aim to continuously challenge myself and grow my professional skills.
For this final project, the decision to look at the design and creation of a text-to-speech application came from the interest in understanding how technology could be more accessible for people with visual or learning impairments. The project began with the idea of designing a platform that would be accessible to all types of users, visually appealing, and easy to use. I set about designing and developing a functional app that would meet some of the basic needs a user may have from a text-to-speech application. The primary aim of this research project was to develop a more accessible interface that helps users with visual impairments; allowing them to interact more freely with articles, websites, and any other online reading materials, and to translate this material from text to speech.
The primary aim was to create a design and research project centered around analysing assistive technology such as Text to Speech and Speech to Text applications. The idea for the application came from wanting to understand better how inclusive design plays a role in modern assistive technology. The goal of the final application is to provide users with a functional Text to Speech and Speech to Text application using an interface that is easy for users to navigate and interact with. The final application was created using React JS, Material UI, and Web Speech API. The final product proved to achieve its goal as a Text to Speech and Speech to Text application with responsive UI elements and inclusive design features.
