BSc [Hons] Applied Psychology

Applied Psychologists are uniquely equipped to apply the theory and methods of psychology to a wide range of real-world problems. The class of 2021 have developed a comprehensive understanding of the human mind and behaviour, and a capability to apply scientific research methods to study the impacts of psychology in an array of application areas. This ‘Applied’ Psychology is the core focus of the programme, with students exploring a range of fields including educational psychology, sport psychology, forensic psychology, psychology of new media, user experience research & design, cyberpsychology and more.

Each student has completed a major research project on a topic they are particularly interested in such as compliance to COVID-19 precautionary measures, cybersafety for adults with intellectual disability, and the role of self-efficacy in proactive work behaviour. This combination of a deep knowledge of core psychological theory with the skills to apply it in practice positions our graduates to thrive in both academic and non-academic careers. The degree is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland and, as such, provides graduates with opportunities for further training in any field of psychology, as well as for a wide variety of related careers.
