Timothy Dignam

BA [Hons] 3D Design Modelmaking + Digital Art

I’m Tim, I love hands-on problem-solving, and model making has continually given me new problems to overcome. Finding these creative solutions to problems is one of the most enjoyable tasks for me. My interests largely involve anything hands-on and creative, from metalworking to miniature painting. My main interests are prop making for film; I paint and play miniature wargames as a hobby and have a huge interest in retro-futurism, retro sci-fi and science fantasy.

Flash Gordon Ray Gun

This project aimed to make the hero prop for a reboot of the Flash Gordon franchise in a retro-futuristic theme based on a weapon from the '40s. The prop would also have some functionality, as seen in the video, there are programmable LEDs with two settings, an adjustable foregrip, battery release and sliding cover for the interior

The Cultural Perception of Colour in Film

In my thesis, I set out to show how your relationship to colour will impact your viewing of a film based on your own culture. I compared Disney's Beauty and the Beast to Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke to show how the use of colour in each film was relying on their own respective cultures relationship with said colours.
