I am a final year Creative Computing student at IADT.
My final year project (MedApp) is an application designed to be used in the medical industry. It allows patients to book medical appointments with their doctors/nurses. Doctors also have the option to create digital prescriptions for their patients. These can be verified by a pharmacist using a QR code.
This is a video showcase of my final year project. The video has closed captions enabled. To view them, click the [CC] button in the lower right corner of the video controls (beside the settings icon).
MedApp Dashboard: This allows the user to easily see if they have any upcoming appointments scheduled or prescriptions available.
Book an Appointment (Used by Patients Only): This form allows patients to book a medical appointment with their doctor or nurse. They select a doctor/nurse, pick a date and time and add any symptoms they might have along with notes they want to pass along before the appointment.
View Appointments: This page allows the user to view their upcoming medical appointments and their status (Pending, Confirmed or Cancelled).
Create a Prescription (Used by Doctors Only): This is a form to allow doctors to create digital prescriptions for their patients. They simply enter the patient they are prescribing the medication to, along with the medication name, dosage and instructions / notes. The date and time are automatically filled in based on the current date and time.
View a Digital Prescription with a QR Code: This is a digital prescription. The QR code is generated to be used by pharmacists to verify the prescription and update the collection status.
Pharmacy Scanner (Used by Pharmacists Only): This is the pharmacy scanner. It is used to check the validity of a prescription. Once a valid prescription is scanned, the prescription information is displayed on screen.
Pharmacy Scanner Updating Prescription Collection Status (Used by Pharmacists Only): This is the screen a pharmacist is presented with when updating a prescription's collection status.
A system that can be used in hospitals to manage and schedule medical appointments including digital prescriptions
MedApp is the application I developed as part of my final year research project. It is an all-in-one system that can be used in hospitals to manage and schedule medical appointments between patients and their medical professionals (doctors or nurses). It also has the additional benefit of allowing doctors to provide their patients with a digital alternative to traditional prescriptions. This is generated when the doctor fills out a form to create a new prescription. Once this is created, a QR code is generated which can then be used at a pharmacy to retrieve medication. The pharmacist has their own QR code scanner to verify the prescription and update the collection status. This is a simple step to avoid a single-use prescription from being used more than once, or at another pharmacy.
'MedApp - A digital healthcare application for medical appointments and digital prescriptions'
My thesis contains a detailed outline of the research, design, implementation and testing carried out during the project development lifecycle. I also discussed the project management and future development of the idea.
